The only way to do great work is to love what you do.
If you haven't found it yet, keep looking.
Don't settle.
As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.”
— Steve Jobs
I’m thrilled to be back in the rhythm of things, immersed in doing what I love: practicing Moshe’s method, preparing future teachers, and empowering colleagues to soar in their practices.
Though I’m not back to my pre-pandemic jet-set schedule — and don’t plan to return to it — I was honored to present the postgraduate Unlocking the Spinal Engine program live and in person in Florence, Munich, and Paris this year. Reconnecting with long-missed faces, meeting others I’d only known online, and welcoming a cadre of passionate, dedicated colleagues was a joy. It’s a particular delight to bring the same curriculum to life in different places, tailor it to meet each group’s needs, and find out what the participants and the material have to teach me.
This particular advanced training builds on physicist Serge Gracovetsky’s pioneering Spinal Engine model of the biomechanics of walking. Rather than concentrating solely on leg movements, his concept offers a systemic, whole-body perspective on human gait that aligns with and expands upon our Feldenkraisian understanding of upright locomotion. Through the program’s step-by-step progression, the participants learn a complete Functional Integration lesson tailored to unwind the unconscious holding that impedes the innate functional pattern that Gravotesky revealed.
If you’re in your third or fourth year of an accredited training program, a recent graduate, or an experienced teacher who missed your chance to participate last year, you have two opportunities to join, one in the US and one in Europe. I’ll be teaching Unlocking the Spinal Engine for the Southwest/Rocky Mountain region of the Feldenkrais Guild of North America® in Denver, Colorado, in early April 2024 and then again at the Vienna Feldenkrais Institute in early June. Hope to see you at one place or the other!
If you know someone who would be interested in participating, I appreciate you forwarding this information to them. And if, by any chance, you’ve been wondering what to get your favorite Feldenkrais teacher or trainee, look no further.
