Live each season as it passes;
breathe the air,
drink the drink,
taste the fruit,
and resign yourself to the influences of each.
— Henry David Thoreau
It’s true. I love summer fruit: berries and all those with pits: cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, and their hybrid cousins such as plots and plumcots. My fondness is so strong that, when I was co-directing a Feldenkrais teaching training in South Australia, I made sure that I taught in the February segments. That gave two seasons of a stone fruit a year.
Yesterday, I learned at the downtown farmers market that last week had been the final week for Saturn peaches, the flattened variety of white peaches I relish most. Though the cherry crop had already finished a couple of weeks ago, I did not realize how quickly the past weeks of summer had slipped by.
Indeed, it’s time for the FGNA (Feldenkrais Guild of North America) annual conference. This year’s event starts . . . yikes!. . tomorrow.
Right after I registered, I marked the dates in my calendar. I had already figured out that I’d explore the same theme – Moving from the Center – I’d taught about this past spring for the Hannah Somatics conference.
Lost in the reveries of summer, I entirely forgot to let you know that the Guild is taking a unique approach this time. Not only are all of the presenters Feldenkrais trainers, but the online conference days are spread out over this month and next instead of being clumped together in a sequence of consecutive days.
Two of my trainer colleagues kick off the top-quality event tomorrow. Donna Ray’s morning workshop is on creativity, and Arlyn Zones’ intriguing afternoon presentation is about gaps in the self-image. Mary Spire and Deborah Bowes are teaching on September 22nd, Donna Blank and I are on for October 6th, and David Zemach-Bersin is presenting the following day.
I found GunKristina’s photo of the Saturn peaches on Pixabay. The Honoring our Trainers conference image is from the FGNA.
