though we travel the world over to find the beautiful,
we must carry it with us, or we find it not.
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
I remember the first time I experienced FOMO, the fear of missing out.
On a family visit to New York City, back when I was in high school, I started looking through all the shows happening that weekend, in museums, theaters, movie houses. So many possibilities vying for my time and attention! So many events I don’t want to miss out on attending!
These days it seems like so many of us are having an experience off by one letter. FOGO instead of FOMO. The fear of going out.
Some of us have fearlessly gone where others aren’t ready to travel, whether that’s around the block or across the country. Though I got my vaccinations, I have certainly been reluctant to venture far. When out for a walk, I still give others a wide berth. I wear a mask to the grocery or the farmers market.
Even so, I am hankering to hit the road.
Today the US government announced that vaccinated folks from other countries can now enter the US.
My best friend in Berlin has been to the movies. He’s been on trips, as have colleagues, family members, and other friends. My pal’s been telling me how the vaccine pass is working well. From my research, it seems to be so.
It’s been since November 2019 that I went anywhere.
Though nothing is certain (was it ever?), I am ready to pack my bags for my first trip. Assuming the situation stays the same or improves, I will teach two advanced training programs in Germany. THE ARTIFICIAL FLOOR in Munich happens the first week of December. Then I will be presenting the first module of RECLAIMING ROLLERS in Hamburg during the second week of December.
What about you?
If you’re ready to meet and learn together, and if these are places you can get to easily, I hope you’ll join me.
