You can’t get beyond the body.
unless you free the body itself.

In April, the Yale Center for Brain and Mind Health sponsored a pivotal event, the International Symposium on Embodied Cognition. This day-long conference provided a platform for significant presentations, including:
- Stress Biology, Cognition and Decision Making
- The Embodied Classroom
- Bessel van der Kolk’s feature presentation, Multi-level Stress Responses, Choices and Decisions: Implications for Illness and Wellness
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend. But here’s the good news: the sessions were recorded and are available free of charge online. You can search for them on YouTube or simply go to the Symposium’s website to find all the links in one place.
I used the symposium’s image from the aforementioned website at the top of today’s post.
It was thanks to my International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association membership that I learned about the recordings. You can learn more about ISMETA and the many benefits of joining this outstanding, expanding, and proactive organization here.

Thanks so much for the information about the conference..However, I am finding it extremely frustrating, dare I say stress inducing, to watch and listen because the sound is so bad. I do have impaired hearing but even with my hearing aids in I can't follow. Disappointing. Has no one else had difficulty?

Hello Greta - I'm so sorry that you're having problems with the sound quality of the Embodied Cognition conference. I haven't listen to the entire conference, but three presentations I checked out were okay for me. (I did notice that the sound got distorted when I turned the volume up too high, but I could hear the presenter fine at a lower setting.) I haven't heard from anyone else that had problems.

My pleasure, Jody! Thanks for taking me up right away on the invitation to check out the proceedings!
