“Small cheer and great welcome make a merry feast.”
— William Shakespeare
It’s the time for the holidays. The “s” is even more significant when you consider the diversity of festivals that happen around now.
This year, the start of Hanukkah and Christmas Day coincide tomorrow. Kwanza starts the day after. The birth of Gautama Buddha is also marked during this time. Depending on the tradition and calendar used, this holiday is known as Laba, Rōhatsu, or Bodhi Day and falls on the eighth day of the twelfth month. Yule happened last week on Winter Solstice, and Lohri is coming up next month.
Whether you live north or south of the equator, regardless of circumstance or situation, and no matter what tradition(s) you follow, I wish you a joyful holiday season and hope you and yours find a way to celebrate together.
A dear friend told me a seasonal joke that, given the injury that inspired Moshe Feldenkrais to develop the method that bears his name, seemed just right to share with you. (Even better, you can tell it to anyone without offending them!)
A gingerbread man went to the doctor's complaining of a sore knee.
The doctor asked him, "Have you tried icing it?"
A big holiday thank you to Anthony A. for the joke and to Teren Elliot, who took the photo at the top of today’s blog.
