While teaching at the Fourth Melbourne Feldenkrais Teacher Training last January, I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Cann. Besides being one of the trainees in the program, Michael is a technologically savvy young man. The following is his appeal (reprinted here with permission), for others to join him in creating an improved listing about the Feldenkrais Method on Wikipedia... In the last 30 days, the Feldenkrais Method article on Wikipedia has received nearly 13,000 visitors. When it comes to public opinion of our method, this article is likely to be the most influential document in the English-speaking world. You can see it for yourself here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feldenkrais_Method Many of the people who think of coming to see us as practitioners will read this page before they make their decision. It is therefore critically important that this article be outstanding. Will you join me in improving this crucial document? You may not realize that you can contribute directly to improving the article. Even if you do, you may not know how to do it. That's why I am hosting an online meeting where I will show you:
- What Wikipedia is and how it works
- What WIkipedia isn't, and what not to do
- How we can work together to leverage different people's skills and interests to achieve an outstanding result
This meeting is for you if you can answer "yes" to any ONE of the following questions:
- Can you suggest clear and practical ways in which the existing article could be improved?
- Are you interested in improving the public reputation of the Method?
- Do you have a strong interest in research?
- Are you an excellent writer?
- Do you have access to photos and images that could be used in the article?
- Are you confident using wikis?
If you have answered "yes" to any of the questions above, please join me in an online meeting to discuss how we can work together to put our best foot forward on Wikipedia. The meeting will be held at 9am on Sunday 16 September (Australian Eastern Standard Time). Access details are provided below. Please RSVP to: michaelejcann@gmail.com Together, we can make sure that 13,000 people per month know how great the Feldenkrais Method really is.
