An adjunct program of the fifth Amsterdam International Feldenkrais Teacher Training.

Whether you’re a trainee looking to make up missed days, a new graduate seeking more training, or an experienced teacher ready for a deeper understanding, please consider joining us for the SECOND CHANCE at the FI PRACTICUM (SCFIP). This summer we have a limited number of spaces available for trainees and teachers to participate in and benefit from Segment 12 of Amsterdam V.

The curriculum reflects our progressive educational approach: in the first three years, the trainees learned the basics of giving hands-on lessons so that, during their fourth year of training, they get better at giving lessons. During this segment before last, the three weeks from 15 August to 3 September, we’ll be delving deep into the more advanced levels the art and science of Moshe’s method. The focus is on improving your skills as a Functional Integrator: developing dexterity, upgrading your technique, refining the listening touch, improving self-use, and expanding your repertoire of lessons. All along, you’ll become a better somatic sleuth as you cultivate your observational acuity and strengthen your analytical abilities.

You’ll join the trainees for our ground-breaking approach to hand-on practicums by being part in a trio that will give the same volunteer student one FI® each of the three weeks. This way you’ll come to understand how learning happens over time; this all-too-often overlooked aspect of Feldenkraisian pedagogy is crucial to know how to facilitate the transfer of learning.

That’s not all.

You will have ample opportunity to work on becoming a better Awareness Through Movement® teacher, enhancing your verbal communication skills, and formulating a professional practice that fits your values and realizes your dreams.

You’ll work directly with the educational director of Amsterdam V, Feldenkrais trainer Larry Goldfarb, Ph.D., and co-director, assistant trainer Caro van Iersel, PT, who have been working together since the first Amsterdam training, more than twenty years ago, to train successful Feldenkrais teachers. Your tuition includes a personal Functional Integration® lesson with one of them, an online video interview before the segment to discuss your learning goals with Larry, and weekly meetings with him and the other participants in the SCFIP.

Your tuition also includes access to the video recordings of the talks, demonstrations, and discussions and audio recordings of the ATM lessons, which will feature the FIVE WINDS KATA lessons from the 2nd year of the San Francisco training.

The SCFIP is a unique opportunity to:

  • Understand the how and why of lessons.
  • Receive personal support and coaching.
  • Improve your hands-on skills.
  • Refine your self-use.
  • Take your personal experience and professional practice to the next level.

Since we first offered this kind of innovative program, as part of Mind in Motion’s New York City teacher training more than a decade ago, it’s been our way to provide intensive and supportive personalized education for colleagues who are dedicated to becoming better movement detectives, coordination coaches, and somatic educators.

The training follows a convenient weekend schedule: Friday to Sunday from 1:30 PM until 7:30 PM, Monday from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The training meets at de Ruimte, Weesperzijde 79a, located a few minutes south of the bustling city center, in a quiet neighborhood near the edge of the Amstel River.

The first few years of the training covered crucial conceptual & technical material, so priority will be given to colleagues who have already worked with Larry Goldfarb or are otherwise familiar with SPIFFER and the models he developed. Though you can visit the training for a week, partial participation in this program is not available.

Tuition for the three weeks is program is €2.050 [or $2,297]. If and only if you apply by 9:00 in the morning Amsterdam time on 15 July 2019, you will be eligible for the reduced early registration tuition of €1.800 [or $2,027].

To apply, please complete and submit the short and sweet online application. Start by clicking here. The application simply asks about where you are in your personal and professional practices, your reasons for applying, and ideas about where you’re heading.
