RTTS FAQ

Returning to the Source FAQ

A: RETURNING TO THE SOURCE is a distance learning program.

The Lesson+Lab and Backstage Pass sessions happen live and online. Larry is teaching this course online using a video streaming service to create a virtual classroom where you can see and hear him as well as the other class members. You can access the sessions on a smartphone, tablet, laptop, computer, or Internet-enabled TV; you can also call into the session on the phone.

Both during the Lesson+Lab and Backstage Pass sessions, thanks to your camera and microphone, you’ll not only get to see and hear but you’ll also be able to interact with him and your classmates. Some of the time, you’ll work with one or more of them in a breakout group while others are in their groups, all via the video service.

If you haven’t had a chance to participate in online learning yet, the great thing about this technology is that it delivers the benefits of improving your abilities to you wherever you are: at home, at work, on public transportation, etc. Even though we won’t in the same physical location, the immediacy of video makes for easy interaction and an uncanny sense of immediacy and comradery.

A: No worries.

Because we know you’re busy, we record every session is recorded. That way, if part of the program doesn’t fit into your schedule or if, for whatever reason, you miss part or all of any session, we’ve got you covered.

The unedited audio and video files are available for you to watch or listen to in less than 48 hours. We do our best to make available within a day.

So that you have the best material to work with (and don’t get overwhelmed with multiple versions of the content), Larry selects the better version of the two ATMs he’s taught and of the Backstage sessions to share.

This makes it possible for you to catch up whenever, wherever, and on whatever device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop, or Internet-enabled TV) works best for you.

A: Not quite!

If you’re in the Santa Cruz, CA area, you’re welcome to attend the Lesson+Lab sessions at Larry’s place as well. Please send an email to the Mind in Motion office to find out his address.

A: Here are ATMs featured in this course:

  1. Lesson 3
    SOME FUNDAMENTAL PROPERTIES OF MOVEMENT
  2. Lesson 4
DIFFERENTIATION OF PARTS AND FUNCTIONS OF BREATHING
  3. Lesson 5
COORDINATION OF THE FLEXOR MUSCLES AND OF THE EXTENSORS
  4. Lesson 8
    PERFECTING THE SELF-IMAGE
  5. Lesson 10
THE MOVEMENT OF THE EYES ORGANIZES THE MOVEMENT OF THE BODY
  6. Lesson 11
BECOMING AWARE OF THE PARTS OF WHICH WE ARE NOT CONSCIOUS WITH THE HELP OF THOSE OF WHICH WE ARE CONSCIOUS

Please note that the lessons are not listed in the order in which they will be taught.

A: Larry teaches one of six ATMs from Moshe’s book Awareness Through Movement each week. This time Larry is teaching these ATMs in a new way: instead of presenting the lessons independently, he’s put them in order to create a series of intertwined lessons that build on one another. This is your opportunity to experience, first-hand, the benefits of weaving lessons together in a longer timeframe than the usual weekly ATM class format.

The idea is to set-up your video camera so that Larry can see you when you’re doing the lesson. This isn’t a requirement. To keep your learning process personal and private, ONLY the audio recordings of the classes are made available.

A: Each week starts with a lesson followed, after a short break, by a Lab.

A few days later, you join the Backstage Pass session you chose when you signed up. (If you can’t make then, you’re welcome to join another session on a space-available basis.)

During these sessions, Larry unpacks the week’s lesson to reveal how it’s designed to make learning happen. In short presentations, he’ll examine the ATMs tactics and techniques, anatomical and biomechanical underpinnings, and compositional structure. He’ll also relate the lesson to Moshe’s personal history and professional development.

After each presentation, you’ll have a chance to put the concepts to work in an interactive exercise with your classmates. There will also be time for Questions and Answers.

If you signed up for the RTTS plus Coaching option, then you’ll set up times for your individual online consultations with Larry.

Larry covers the remaining lessons from the ATM book in the follow-up course to RTTS, which is called BEHIND THE CURTAIN (BTC). RTTS is a pre-requisite for enrolling in BTC.

A: That’s up to you. Larry’s aim is to teach the class so that reviewing the recordings and doing the homework provides a solid basis for learning on your own. That being said, as part of fostering the development of a community of learners, we offer the class in this format to make interaction and collaborative learning possible.

A: There’s no deadline for completing the course.

Your tuition gives you lifetime access to all of the course materials: the audio recordings of the ATMs, the selected video and audio recordings the Labs and the Backstage Pass session, and the audio recordings of the mini-workshops from previous editions of RTTS along with future versions of the RTTS course material.

A: Because there are no tests or quizzes, we have no basis for granting certificates of completion

We can, however, provide a certificate of attendance — if and only — if you attend a Lesson+Lab and a Backstage Pass session each and every week.

A: Yes. Absolutely. We will be offering RTTS again.

If you know you are interested in signing up in the future, please let us know by sending an email to the Mind in Motion office.

This way we can inform you about the next edition before we send out the general announcement. That will give you first dibs on enrolling.
